Stem Separation & Remaster of Legacy Recordings
Recover usable stems from old stereo masters, repair the damage, and bring legacy recordings up to modern release standards.
Multitracks get lost. Tapes degrade. What often survives is a stereo master — and until recently that was the end of the conversation about rebalancing an old record.
Separation, then repair
Modern separation recovers usable vocal, drum, bass and instrument stems from a stereo source. That opens the door to fixing a buried vocal or an overpowering hi-hat that has bothered you for thirty years.
Full restoration path
- Stem separation from the stereo master
- Noise, hum, click and dropout repair
- Rebalancing of recovered elements
- Tonal restoration and modern remastering
- Optional Atmos conversion from the recovered stems
Frequently Asked Questions
How good is stem separation?
Very good on well-recorded material and mixed on dense or heavily processed sources. We assess your master and report what is realistically recoverable.
Can you fix noise and tape damage?
Yes. Hum, hiss, clicks, crackle and dropouts are addressed as part of the restoration pass.
Can old recordings be converted to Atmos?
Yes. Recovered stems make immersive conversion of legacy catalog possible even without the original multitracks.
What source format do you need?
The highest quality file or transfer available. We can also advise on tape transfer if the physical master still exists.
